Tuesday 13th June

About average temperatures for mid-June 12 - 17C some lengthy spells of sunshine with a moderate but decreasing westerly wind

New South Promenade - Blenny, several juvenile flat fish, juvenile sand eel (or possibly a juvenile pipefish), juvenile bearded rockling (not sure which species), many brown shrimps, several green shore crabs, necklace shells (some with hedgehog hydroid attached), tower shell, common otter shells, curved razor shells, striped venus shell, compass jellyfish, many sea gooseberries

Solaris Centre - Deptford pink, many broad centurion hoverflies

Marton Mere LNR - 2 Gadwall, great crested grebe, 4 lapwing, buzzard, sparrowhawk, kestrel, 21 long tailed tits

Stanley Park - 2 adult + 1 juvenile Great crested grebe, 3 blackcaps

Lawson's Field - Cetti's warbler

Heron's Reach golf course - Little grebe

Staining Nook - Cetti's warbler, willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap, whitethroat, song thrush, 10 tree sparrows

Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th July

Still cool for mid July 12 - 17C very mixed weather, heavy rain at times, showers and some bright sunshine with a brisk westerly wind

Wednesday 13th July

Solaris Centre - Pied wagtail, 3 small white butterflies

New South Promenade - Blenny + many juvs, several common prawns, several green shore crabs

Starr Gate - Harbour porpoise, 518 Manx shearwaters, 308 common scoters, fulmar (N), 20 gannets, 2 whimbrels (S), Arctic skua, 3 Arctic terns, 4 Sandwich terns, 24 common terns

Stanley Park - Common tern (very rarely seen here)

Marton Mere LNR - Common tern, 17 black tailed godwits (SE), 2 sparrowhawks, 6 stock doves

Marton Drive - 10 House martins

Tuesday 12th July

Starr Gate - Little tern (N), 5 common terns (N)

Solaris Centre - 3 Common hawker dragonfly nymphs

Marton Mere LNR - Kestrel + 4 juvs, 2 buzzards, 60 Lapwings, curlew (W), 6 shovelers, 12 tufted ducks, 4 stock doves, 5 sand martins, 3 small skippers, 2 gatekeepers, comma butterflies

EVENT - Marton Mere LNR Visitor Centre (FY4 4XN) Junior Rangers Go Wild (Big Butterfly Count) Saturday 16th July 1pm - 2.30pm. Suitable 11 - 16 yrs £3 per child

EVENT - Marton Mere LNR Bird Ringing Demonstration Wednesday 20th July 7am - 9am Marton Mere is part of a national breeding bird study. Join expert ringer Andy to find out more about the scheme and see some of our birds close up. EVENT - North Blackpool Pond Trail Kincraig Lake (FY2 0HN). Big Butterfly Count. Sunday 31st July 1pm - 2.30pm. Nets at the ready and we're off...Take part in this national survey to learn about and count our local butterflies. Free

Please bring binoculars if you have them, some may be available for use on the day, telescopes will also be available. Dress for the weather, sunscreen and hat or winter woollies.
There is ample on-street free parking close to both locations and a small free carpark at the Solaris Centre (FY4 1RW) opposite the Mirror Ball. Pay & Display parking is also available on the Promenade at the Mirror Ball and at Gynn Square (FY1 2JR)

Wednesday 3rd June

A milder day still a bit cool for early June, 10 - 14C mostly sunny with a moderate decreasing westerly wind

Marton Mere LNR - 101 Northern marsh orchids and common spotted orchids in flower with at least 70 still to open, 2 common blue butterflies, 2 peacocks, small toroiseshell, 2 kestrels

Highfield Humanities College - Fine show of wildflowers especially ox-eye daisies and bird's foot trefoil

Staining Nook - 4 Buzzards

New South Promenade - several Blennies, numerous Common Prawns, 4 green shore crabs, speckled sea louse.
