A much warmer day but cold overnight 5 - 17C progolonged sunshine with light variable winds

New South Promenade - 2 Red breasted mergansers

Marton Mere LNR/Staining Nook - 4 Grasshopper warblers, 40 swifts

Devonshire Road - Warbreck Hill Road roundabout - Excellent display of Birds Foot Trefoil

A small Moon Jellyfish found near South Pier, this species is harmless

Tuesday 9th June

A much more sumemry day but cold overnight 4- 15C mostly sunny with a light northerly breeze

New South Promenade - Grey seal, 40 Canada geese (N), 2 swifts (1st of the year here)

Gynn - Many Sea gooseberries, compass jellyfish, juv flatfish sp, green shore crabs, masked crabs

Town Centre - Grey wagtail

Stanley Park - Grey wagtail

A cool weekend for early June 9 - 16C, mostly sunny with a cold strong wind SW easing and turning NW

Marton Mere LNR - 170+ Common spotted & northern marsh orchids (most in flower now), 30 swifts, lesser whitethroat

De Vere Hotel access road/Zoo - Cetti's warbler

North Blackpool Pond Trail - Great crested grebe, blackcap, 2 reed buntings


Saturday 6th June

No reports

Friday 5th June

New South Promenade - Little tern, 25 common terns, 20 gannets

Heron's Reach - 2 Bee orchids, little grebe, lapwing

Marton Mere LNR - Grasshopper warbler, 4 Cetti's warblers, linnet (pair carrying food)

A milder day still a bit cool for early June, 10 - 14C mostly sunny with a moderate decreasing westerly wind

Marton Mere LNR - 101 Northern marsh orchids and common spotted orchids in flower with at least 70 still to open, 2 common blue butterflies, 2 peacocks, small toroiseshell, 2 kestrels

Highfield Humanities College - Fine show of wildflowers especially ox-eye daisies and bird's foot trefoil

Staining Nook - 4 Buzzards

New South Promenade - several Blennies, numerous Common Prawns, 4 green shore crabs, speckled sea louse.

Starr Gate - Arctic skua, 52 Manx shearwaters, fulmar, 5 kittiwakes, 10 common terns, 13 auks

Monday 1st June

Starr Gate - Arctic skua, 5 kittiwakes

A generally cold wet and windy May, daytime temperatures were over 2C below average but nightime temperatures were 1C above average.

Devonshire Road Rock Gardens - Holly blue butterfly, cowslip (1st one here)

New South Promenade - 45 Gannets, 27 manx shearwaters

Friday 29th May

Marton - Nuthatch (nesting in suburban nest box)

New South Promenade - Grey seal

Thursday 28th May

Starr Gate - 2 Bottle nosed dolphins (probable), 227 Manx shearwaters, 30 kittiwakes

Wednesday 27th May

Marton Mere LNR - 40+ Northern marsh orchids, 1+ common spotted orchid

Warbreck Hill - Fox

Monday 18th May

Stanley Park - 30 House martins

Sunday 17th May

Starr Gate - Arctic skua, 80 gannets
