Monday 23rd January

A cold day -2 - 5C foggy then gloomy but brighter later with a very light easterly wind

Marton Mere LNR - 10 Snipe, chiffchaff, little grebe, 4 goldeneyes, 125 wigeon, 60 fieldfares, goldcrest, 8 linnets, 30 greenfinches

Stanley Park - 2 Teal, 27 gadwall, 16 shovelers, great crested grebe, great spotted woodpecker, 4 mistle thrushes

Solaris Centre - Song thrush (very irregular here)

Thursday 7th July

A little warmer 14 - 17C rain early on them sunny spells with a light south westerly wind

Robin's Lane - Song thrush, 3 frogs, several small skippers, large skipper, several meadow browns, many blue tailed damselflies, tall fescue grass, unidentified club-rush (a sedge), unidentified rush (a hybrid?)

Starr Gate - 2 Grey seals, 149 Manx shearwaters (N), 12 gannets (N), 126 common scoters, 2 whimbrels (S), 11 common terns.

Stanley Park - 2 Great crested grebes + 1 juv

Marton Mere LNR - 2 Kestrels + 4 juvs, 2 great crested grebes + 1 juv, 6 gadwall

Heron's Reach - Fox, Tufted duck + chicks

Event - Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve Summer Festival of Wildlife
Saturday 9th July 10am - 4pm at the Reserve's Visitor Centre on Marton Mere Caravan Park  FY4 4XN next to the Spar shop.

Event - North Blackpool Pond Trail Kincraig Lake (FY2 0HN). Big Butterfly Count. Sunday 31st July 1pm - 2.30pm. Nets at the ready and we're off...Take part in this national survey to learn about and count our local butterflies.

Please bring binoculars if you have them, some may be available for use on the day, telescopes will also be available. Dress for the weather, sunscreen and hat or winter woollies.
There is ample on-street free parking close to both locations and a small free carpark at the Solaris Centre (FY4 1RW) opposite the Mirror Ball. Pay & Display parking is also available on the Promenade at the Mirror Ball and at Gynn Square (FY1 2JR)

Monday 14th March

A warm day 3 - 12C sunny with a light to moderate easterly breeze

Town Centre - Grey wagtail

Stanley Park - Treecreeper

Preson New Road - 2 Siskins

New South Promenade - Chaffinch (over - not recorded every year here), 2 red throated divers, great crested grebe

Lawson's wetland - 6 Meadow pipits

Marton Mere LNR - Bewick's swan (early morning chased off by male mute swan, 3 stonechats, grey wagtail, 2 snipe,  woodcock, 5 oystercatchers, 6 song thrushes, 2 great crested grebe, 8 goldeneyes, kestrel, 9 stock doves, goldcrest
